Culture at ACT Public Service

Team culture is good. People are supportive of team members' preferences for how they want to work, provide assistance and are cooperative. However, some managers are very busy and provide little support to new staff members. There is very little socialising during work hours or after hours.

My colleagues are very approachable and friendly people. There is a strong sense of collaboration and teamwork within my workplace. There are also lots of social events that encourage networking.

Very friendly and supportive; we usually have a team lunch on Fridays.

Everyone I have worked with has been extremely professional and inclusive at work. They have been respectful and cooperative even in times of stress. Teamwork can sometimes be difficult due to competing priorities but everyone understands the importance of collaboration.

My branch has a great culture of trust, teamwork, cooperation and camaraderie. Other branches within the same directorate do not always share this; but in my case we have good leadership on all levels and this has led to an enjoyable and functional culture.

There is good support within my team however more broadly we have a high attrition rate. We don't often socialise outside of hours but often there will be activities we participate in together during lunch breaks.

I have independence in projects and I am encouraged and supported on these if needed, I am able to network with other state governments and federal departments, there is often team bonding lunches, and team work is highly encouraged.

I have worked in a number of areas and each one has a different culture. In general, colleagues are quite friendly, approachable and happy to help. I have not observed much after hours socialisation, although there are some planned activities during work hours e.g. yoga, volleyball, ping pong, BBQ's etc. Birthdays are celebrated with cake and there are regular morning teas. Some teams are more cohesive than others, and some areas are quite isolated. This means that you aren't always aware of what others are doing and this can lead to duplicated work. Executives are generally approachable, though not always easy to work with. In each of my roles I have been lucky to have an excellent supervisor and have always felt supported.

It's a very friendly work environment. Unlike most public service areas a large portion of staff in my area have a teaching background rather than government which makes it more diverse and lots of different perspectives. From my experience there is not a lot of after hours engagement/ social events. The average age is higher than a lot of other areas and it's a very family friendly environment and is supportive of flexible working conditions etc.

The hierarchy and approval process is very complex and is a source of frustration. However, my immediate team is very social and cohesive.

My section̥s culture is honest, we have great team members and all support each other in and out of office.

Quite structured, overall there could be more teamwork and out of work events planned.

Most people in my workplace are happy to have chat, but they tend not to socialise very often outside of work. Like most areas of Government, if hierarchy and bureaucracy are not your cup of tea, you might have trouble here.

My team is very supportive and respectful. ACT Education has a great culture.

The culture of my directorate internally is pretty good, however there is not a lot of out of hours socialisation.

Friendly staff - however, opportunities to socialise with staff (both in the team and wider organisation) are not provided by the organisation. Lack of facilities/meeting areas in my office to socialise or take a break from work.
