Training is variable. Some training sessions include useful things and some are very basic skills most people probably already have.

Very satisfied - my workplace provides a wide variety of face-to-face and online learning sessions.
Graduate, Canberra - 02 Mar 2020
The graduate program gave us broad training on Government skills such as writing, finance, time management, communication and interpersonal skills. These were hit-and-miss depending on the training provider. I learnt skills on brief writing and emotional intelligence. The ACTPS also offers training to all employees on disability awareness, Indigenous reconciliation, safety, as well as additional training relevant to one's job when requested, which is good.

For my specific role there isn't often a lot of related training available.

The Graduate Program had a pretty comprehensive training schedule (e.g. writing for government, emotional intelligence, strategic thinking etc.). Post-grad program there are not that many readily available training programs, mainly things like safety, mental health awareness, cultural awareness etc. Teams will occasionally run informal training on particular software.

I have been completing the required e-learnings for my role and hope to undertake a formal training program shortly that is tailored to my role.
Graduate, Canberra - 20 Feb 2020
Most things I've learnt on the job but I've been able to travel interstate for conferences. There is a trainingbudget which staff have a say in what they want to do.

Opportunities are regularly advertised to take on short training courses (government writing, cultural awareness, excel training et.), especially as part of the graduate program. Formal study opportunities can be requested with paid leave and reimbursement for costs available.
Graduate, Canberra - 19 Feb 2020
There's a lot of training sessions provided and they are good to have as an option but I'm interested in doing more formal training to advance my career and so far haven't had many opportunities within my current team.

Graduate training program that prepares grads to get used to the public service and develop skills necessary for work. Other training also available as appropriate. Further education also supported if beneficial to your work.

Training programs and conferences allocated for my team and I work well as it embeds stronger training tools for us to work in our schools and work environments.
Graduate, Canberra - 19 Feb 2020
There is a very large training program in ACTPS however not every area necessarily uses this to their full advantage.
Graduate, Canberra - 19 Feb 2020
Plenty of training opportunities available to develop skills including writing, recruitment panel management, diversity and cultural awareness, risk management, and WHS.
